How (and When) to Cite Us

Please cite Raman Base as your source in the following circumstances:

1. When Publishing Your Own Data

Whenever you publish an article, use Raman Base to publicly share the associated spectral data. Add the following line to the materials and methods section, e.g.:

"To access the Raman spectral data used in this publication, go to Raman Base [1], https://ramanbase.org/doi/, and follow the instructions."

Then add the citation [1] to the References section:

[1] Raman Base: Open online database of Raman Spectra. Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, Czech Republic. Accessible at https://ramanbase.org

When the article is published, add the DOI of your article to the respective spectra, either when completing the upload form or later, after clicking the "edit" button on the entry. Make sure you switch the privacy level of these spectra to public; here is how to do it.

2. When Republishing Data of Other Raman Base USers

Republishing other users spectra requires permission from their authors. Contact information can be found via the associated DOI of the original article. Also cite Raman Base as in the previous case, e.g.:

"These Raman spectra were republished from [1] with the permission of the authors. To access these Raman spectral data, go to Raman Base [2], https://ramanbase.org/doi/, and follow the instructions."

Then add the citation [1] and [2] to the References section:

[1] Author, A., Author, B. Raman spectroscopy of our samples, Raman Journal 10, 2-8 (2000)

[2] Raman Base: Open online database of Raman Spectra. Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, Czech Republic. Accessible at https://ramanbase.org

3. When Republishing Public Domain Data of Other Raman Base Users

In some cases, the spectra publicly available in Raman Base do not have DOI associated with them. Such spectra are considered public domain under the Creative Commons license CC BY 4.0, with proper attribution to Raman Base and the unique identifier of the spectrum, e.g.:

"These public domain Raman spectral data can be found in Raman Base [1], https://ramanbase.org/, under the following identifiers: abcde1, abcde2, abcde3", where instead of "abcde1" etc., you enter the respective unique identifiers of the used spectra.

Then add the citation [1] to the References section:

[1] Raman Base: Open online database of Raman Spectra. Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, Czech Republic. Accessible at https://ramanbase.org/

Before assuming that a certain spectrum is public domain, check the notes in the detailed view of the spectrum. Authors are free to define some limitations or conditions for the use of their spectra. Please, always respect the wishes of the authors.
