Terms of Use

1. Introduction

  • Raman Base is a free online spectral database, your globally accessible personal spectral repository, and a dynamically evolving platform for easy management and analysis of Raman spectroscopic data.
  • Raman Base provides its service completely free of charge, with exceptions noted below.
  • Browse the detailed descriptions of all the Raman Base functionalities in the section "Tutorials".

2. Non-Registered Users

  • Non-registered users are only allowed to browse, view, and search public spectra through a full-text query.

3. Registration

  • Registration to Raman Base is free and provides access to all the functionalities. A valid email address is the only requirement. You will be prompted to select a password for your user account. You can register here.

4. Registered Users

  • Once registered, your user account allows you to create a personal spectral repository, download public spectral data from other users, search spectra by similarity, and access many more useful functions.
  • Registered users are free to use the public spectroscopic data of all Raman Base users for research purposes.

5. Uploading Data

  • Registered users may upload Raman spectroscopic data to Raman Base by filling out a dedicated upload form. Ensure the correct format is used (see "Format of Input Spectra"). You can also annotate the entry with additional information, various notes, sample images, and much more. Each entry receives a unique identifier for easy reference.

6. Privacy Settings

  • Raman Base allows you to freely switch between three levels of privacy for each of your personal spectra: private (only visible to you), searchable (visible in similarity-search results but not downloadable), or public (visible and downloadable by other users).

7. Sharing and Republishing

  • When publishing Raman-based research, you can use Raman Base to share the associated Raman dataset, searchable by the DOI of the article.
  • Adding the DOI of the associated article to the descriptions of your personal spectra ensures that other users can find your spectral data and seek your permission for republishing.
  • Republishing other users spectra requires permission from their authors. Contact information can be found via the associated DOI of the original article.
  • When republishing spectra in your publication, cite Raman Base. Public spectra without the DOI are considered public domain under the Creative Commons license CC BY 4.0, with proper attribution to Raman Base and the unique identifier of the spectrum.

8. Citing Raman Base

  • Whenever using Raman Base to publicly share spectra in a publication, cite Raman Base and add the DOI of your article to the respective spectra after clicking the "edit" button on the entry.

9. Service Details

  • Raman Base service is provided as-is. Suggestions and recommendations regarding the service are welcome, but angry comments or complaints may be disregarded.
  • Regular data backups and other security measures are in place. However, Raman Base assumes no responsibility and provides no compensation in the highly unlikely case of data loss. Every user is responsible for keeping a backup of their data.
